Welcome to the personal academic homepage of Daniel W. Hieber (or just Danny for those who know me).
I am a linguist with Rosetta Stone’s Research labs, based in Harrisonburg, VA, since 2011. Prior to that, I worked in the company’s Endangered Language Program (from 2008), creating language-learning software for endangered languages.
I received my B.A. in Linguistics and Philosophy from The College of William & Mary in 2008. My research tends to focus on typology and theory, informed by descriptive work with endangered languages.
My major areas of interest are:
- Endangered Language Documentation, Revitalization, & Description
- Linguistic Typology
- History & Philosophy of Linguistics
- Logic & Linguistic Theory
- Economics & Praxeology of Language
On this site, you’ll find my research blog as well as my research agenda, my curriculum vitae, a list of my publications and presentations, solutions to problem sets from various textbooks I’ve worked through, several annotated bibliographies, and photos from my field visits. The site is always a work in progress, so keep checking back for updates!
Feel free to email me here, and subscribe to my blog here!

Your Latin For American translations have helped me so much throughout my freshman and sophomore year. Our teacher often goes very quickly through a lot of the readings, and I can almost never keep up with what is going on in the class. Thank you very much for your help, and please continue what you are doing.
